Streamlined News: Feb. 1, 2012

PHOENIX, Arizona, February 1. THIS is Streamlined News for February 1, 2012 presented by Swimoutlet.com The Web's most popular swim shop.

News broke last night that Zimbabwe's Kirsty Coventy, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, would be returning to Texas to swim for UT's Kim Brackin. Coventry made news last summer when she entered into an arrangement where Charlene, the Princess of Monaco, took care of Coventry's needs while Coventry focused on training. Charlene Wittstock was an Olympic swimmer for South Africa prior to marrying Prince Albert, and the Royal Couple has always supported the sport.

Coventry, however, elected to return to swim for Brackin, who was at the helm of her career for her Olympic gold medals as well as four silvers and a bronze. She also won three long course world titles under her direction.

"I'm thrilled to have her back," Brackin told Swimming World last night.

Another Olympian made some noise today when two-time Australian Olympic gold medalist Kieren Perkins slammed Swimming Australia in the media Down Under. Perkins claimed that a high dropout rate for elite swimmers in their early to mid 20s is the reason behind the recent spate of comebacks in the sport, including Ian Thorpe and Michael Klim's returns. Perkins further stated that he felt that Australia's swimming administration pushes talented kids too hard too early, leading to the desire to break away from the sport when they reach adulthood.

And, on the collegiate scene, tickets for the NCAA Women's Division I Championships being held in Auburn, Alabama went on sale to the general public today. So, make sure you head to NCAA.com/tickets to join us in Auburn next month.

That is it for today's Streamlined News. See you again tomorrow.
