Stanford Women’s Water Polo Wins MPSF Championship

The Cardinal defeat No. 2 Cal 6-4 to capture conference title.

SAN JOSE, CA – The Stanford women's water polo team
defeated second-ranked Cal to win the Mountain Pacific Sports
Federation Conference Championship title. The Cardinal, who
were 0-3 against the Golden Bears this season before Sunday's
game used a four-goal first period to take an early lead and win
the championship game 6-4 for the first time in the history of the
program.

Freshman Julie Gardner and junior Kris Koblik led the Cardinal
attack, scoring two goals each. Sophomore Margie Dingeldein
and junior Anne-Marie Keenan each recorded one goal to give
Stanford a total of six.

Margie Dingeldein, Julie Gardner and freshman Cardinal
goalkeeper Jackie Frank were all named First-Team MPSF
All-Tournament.

The Cardinal turned in a record of 5-0 in the MPSF Conference.
The squad's overall record improves to 22-4. Stanford will play
one more regular season game against UC Davis on April 14th.
