South Carolina Women, Georgia Tech Men Victorious in Dual Meet

The South Carolina women have put together a string of impressive performances this month, and they continued that trend by dominating Georgia Tech in their final dual meet, 211.5-86.5. A more competitive contest on the men’s side went to the Yellow Jackets by a 169-131 margin. Throughout, the meet featured plenty of extremely competitive races, with three of the four relays coming down to less than a half-second margin.

The Gamecock women won the 200 medley relay with Amy RiordanAnnaliese StreeterGreta Pelzek and Dylan Scholes clocking 1:38.13, holding off a surging Georgia Tech squad (1:38.29). Riordan came away ahead of the field in the 100 backstroke (52.90) and 200 backstroke (1:54.81), with Pelzek topping the 200 butterfly in a strong time of 1:53.93. Pelzek returned to capture her third win over all in the 100 fly (52.47).

Emma Reiser captured first place in the 1000 freestyle (9:48.67), followed by Ellery Ottem winning the 200 free (1:46.02). Peyton Curry won the 50 free (22.46) and 100 free (48.88), followed by Delaney Franklin winning the 200 breaststroke (2:12.31) and Nora Fluck coming away first in the 500 free (4:45.90).

In diving, South Carolina’s Sophie Verzyl finished first on 3-meter (362.85) and 1-meter (292.05), and Delaney Franklin dominated the 400 IM with a time of 4:13.12. And in another competitive relay, Curry, Riordan, Otten and Scholes finished first in the 400 free relay in 3:16.47.

The Yellow Jacket women got their lone win from Sabyne Brisson in the 100 breast (1:00.68)

Georgia Tech’s men started strong when Berke SakaUros ZivanovicLeandro Odorici and Robin Yeboah took first in the 200 medley relay in 1:25.97, coming from behind to finish ahead of South Carolina by just a tenth. Odorici won the 50 free (20.09) with Yeboah finishing second while Ricky Balduccini, Odorici and Yeboah led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 free, with Balduccini touching in 44.04. Balduccini earned a second win in the 100 fly (46.99).

Mert Kilavuz dominated the 1000 free (9:01.61), and teammate Vitor Sega won the 200 free (1:36.39). Saka touched first in the 200 back in 1:43.01, holding off hard-charging Gamecock Kaden Smesko (1:43.11). Max Fowler placed first in 3-meter diving (381.68), and Odorici, Yeboah, Saka and David Gapinski rounded out the day with a winning mark of 2:55.02 in the 400 free relay.

The Gamecocks’ Michael Laitarovsky finished first in the 100 back (46.52), and teammate Linus Kahl topped the 100 breast by one hundredth over Zivanovic, 43.50 to 53.51. Kahl later won the 200 breast as well, clocking 1:56.41.

Tommy Eaton came away first in the 200 fly (1:44.48), and Connor Fry was first in the 500 free (4:24.28). South Carolina’s Charlie Bayer won 1-meter diving (349.65), with Raymond Prosinski claiming the team’s final win of the day in the 400 IM (3:51.41).
