South Carolina Man Fights Cancer With Open Water Swim
Ernie Yarborough is using an open water swim to help fight cancer down in South Carolina this Friday when he will attempt to swim the longest ever recorded swim across Lake Murray.
Yarborough is a local insurance agent who is completing the 10 mile swim on Friday to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as part of a fundraising effort ahead of next week’s Man and Woman of the Year Awards for LLS.
“There is no if in these kids… only when,” said Yarborough when describing his motivation for the swim. “That is what inspires me and that’s why I keep going and that’s why I’m swimming across Lake Murray.”
Yarborough is a weekly volunteer at the children’s cancer floor at the Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital. He has completed 4 Ironman Triatholons and is hoping to raise $10,000 for the organization.
