SMU to Host US National Diving Champs

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., Jan. 31. UNITED States Diving and Southern Methodist University announced today the 2002 U.S. National Diving Championships will take place
July 22-27, in Dallas, Texas.

More than 125 divers are expected to compete in the six-day event held at the A.R. Barr Aquatic Center on the campus of Southern Methodist University. The 2002 contest marks the third time since 1990 SMU has hosted the Nationals.

"SMU has shown time and time again that it is capable of holding a quality meet," said Bill Walker, U.S. Diving President. "We are confident this year will be the same, and divers and fans alike will enjoy the high level of competition."

"We are looking forward to showcasing the best diving in the country at SMU and in Dallas," commented Jim Stillson, SMU head diving coach. "In the past, SMU and Dallas has shown great hospitality to the diving community on the national level, making it one of their favorite places to come."

The event will feature men's and women's 1-meter and 3-meter springboard, 10-meter platform and synchronized 3-meter springboard and 10-meter platform diving. The top four male and female athletes on 1-meter, top six on 3-meter and 10-meter and top team on synchronized 3-meter and 10-meter will be named to the 2002 National Team.
