NEW COMMIT: El Dorado Hills, Calif. native and backstroke specialist Cassidy Jones has given her verbal pledge to the University of Idaho and will join the Vandals as a member of the class of 2023.

Jones does her club swimming with Sierra Marlins and concluded her summer long course season with six swims at Western Zone Seniors. She recorded a pair of lifetime bests at the Husky Invite last winter and was a five-time finalist at the Allington Memorial Meet in February. Also competing for Oak Ridge High School, Jones competed in two events at CIF-San Joaquin Sections during her junior season.

She told Swimming World:

“I knew from the moment that I arrived on campus that the University of Idaho was a good fit for me. I can envision myself being successful both as a student and as an athlete there. I’m looking forward to becoming part of the team, bettering myself as a swimmer, and challenging myself academically. Go Vandals!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 back – 59.80
  • 200 back – 2:09.93
  • 50 free – 25.20
  • 100 free – 54.48

When she suits up for the Vandals in the fall of 2019, Jones will join a young but talented backstroke training group that includes Katie Hale and Emily Deitz. She would’ve placed in the C-final of both backstroke events at the 2018 WAC Championships where Idaho finished third overall in the team standings.
