SEC Championships Day 3 Prelims: Rooney, Dressel Take Top Seeds
The SEC meet continued with Thursday’s Day 3 preliminaries. Here is a look at who made the finals:
Women’s 400 IM
Texas A&M’s Sydney Pickrem took the top seed in the 400 IM, finishing in 4:05.98 — three seconds ahead of South Carolina’s Emma Barksdale (4:08.28).
A&M’s Bethany Galat took the third seed (4:08.33), followed by Tennessee’s Meghan Small (4:08.42), Georgia’s Emily Cameron (4:08.65), A&M’s Monika Gonzalez-Hermosillo (4:08.72), Missouri’s Sharli Brady (4:08.80) and Alabama’s Mia Nonnenberg (4:08.85).
Men’s 400 IM
Georgia’s Chase Kalisz took the top seed in the 400 IM, finishing in 3:40.93.
Florida’s Mark Szaranek took the second seed (3:42.42), followed by Georgia’s Jay Litherland (3:42.63), South Carolina’s Tom Peribonio (3:45.12), Auburn’s Joe Patching (3:45.36), Georgia’s Gunnar Bentz (3:45.79), Tennessee’s Sam McHugh (3:45.86) and Florida’s Alex Lebed (3:46.44).
Women’s 100 butterfly
Texas A&M’s Sarah Gibson took the top seed in the 100 butterfly, clocking in at 50.93.
Georgia’s Chelsea Britt took the second seed (51.47), followed by Auburn’s Haley Black (52.09), Tennessee’s Madeline Banic (52.20), Georgia’s Kylie Stewart (52.29), A&M’s Beryl Gastaldello (52.32), LSU’s Kara Kopsco (52.34) and Auburn’s Bailey Nero (52.39).
Men’s 100 butterfly
Florida’s Caeleb Dressel continued his strong meet by taking the top seed in the 100 butterfly (44.87), a pool record.
Missouri’s Andrew Sancoucie took the second seed (45.97), followed by Auburn’s Luis Martinez (46.02), LSU’s Logan Rysemus (46.10), Alabama’s Luke Kaliszak (46.15), Alabama’s Connor Oslin (46.16), Florida’s Jan Switkowski (46.22) and Tennessee’s Ryan Coetzee (46.23).
Women’s 200 freestyle
Kentucky’s Geena Freriks took the top seed in the 200 freestyle (1:45.29), edging Texas A&M’s Claire Rasmus (1:45.40).
Georgia’s Meaghan Raab took the third seed (1:45.75), followed by Auburn’s Erin Falconer (1:45.90), Georgia’s Meryn McCann (1:46.35), A&M’s Kristin Malone (1:46.44), Kentucky’s Ali Galyer (1:46.70) and Kentucky’s Kendal Casey (1:46.83).
Men’s 200 freestyle
Florida freshman Maxime Rooney took the top seed in the 200 freestyle (1:33.05).
South Carolina’s Fynn Minuth took the second seed at 1:34.22, followed by Florida’s Khader Baqlah (1:34.47), Alabama’s Laurent Dams (1:34.56), Florida’s Mitch D’Arrigo (1:34.62), Georgia’s Walker Higgins (1:34.81), Tennessee’s Joey Reilman (1:34.82) and Missouri’s Mike Schreuders (1:34.99).
