Sebastiaan Verschuren, a finalist in the 100 free at the 2012 Olympic Games, has decided to call it a swimming career. He posted the news on his Facebook account Tuesday.

Verschuren finished fifth in that 100 free final in London, missing out on the medals by just eight one-hundredths of a second. He also finished 11th in the 200 free at that meet.

He performed well in the same London pool at the European Championships earlier this year, winning gold in the 200 free and in two relays and taking the silver in the 100, but he could not find his way into any Olympic finals come Rio. He again finished 11th in the 200 free and tied for 10th in the 100 free.
