A pair of Sandpipers from Nevada won the distance events on night one at the TYR Fran Crippen Memorial Swim Meet of Champions as Erin Emery, 17, and Logan Houck, 18, finished the night with meet victories.

Emery won the women’s 800-meter free in 8:42.96, adding about a second and a half to her entry time.

Her 14-year-old teammate, Erica Sullivan, however had a huge time drop as she took second in 8:44.63.  That swim cut more than 15 seconds from her entry time, blasting her previous lifetime best of 9:00.37.

Allie Davis closed out the top three in the women’s 800-meter free with a time of 8:46.11, dropping five seconds from her time as well.

Houck knocked off the highly-touted 16-year-old Sean Grieshop of Nitro for the men’s metric mile triumph.

Houck hit the wall in 15:21.42, cutting nearly six second off his previous lifetime best.

Grieshop, a national age group record holder, turned in a 15:22.03 to take second.

Mission Viejo’s Nick Norman rounded out the podium with a third-place time of 15:32.70.

The meet is named after former Mission Viejo Nadador Fran Crippen, who died during an open water race in 2010.
