Saint Francis Women’s Swimming Announces 2004 Recruiting Class

LORETTO, Penn, May 16. SAINT Francis University women's swimming coach Pat Gallagher has announced the signing of five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Joining the Red Flash for the 2004-05 season will be Sarah Abbott, Stefanie Hozempa, Jennifer Jeffreys, Sirae Riley and Alicia Vasiladis.

Sarah Abbott (Corning, NY) is a freestyle specialist from Corning East High School in New York. A two-time state qualifier in high school, Abbott is the school record-holder in the 50, 100, 200 and 500-yard freestyle events. She also competed for the Corning YMCA River Rats and was a Y State finalist this past season. Sarah was a member of the National Honor Society during her junior and senior years and will study physical therapy at Saint Francis.

Stefanie Hozempa (Horseheads, NY) arrives at SFU from Horeseheads High School in New York and was a teammate of Abbott's with the Corning YMCA River Rats. Hozempa competes in a wide range of events and will contribute immediately in all freestyle distances while also seeing action in the individual medley. A team captain, she represented the school at the New York State High School Championships, won the outstanding effort award for her team and was awarded the New York State Sportsmanship award her senior year. Hozempa will major in elementary and special education at Saint Francis.

Jennifer Jeffreys (Freehold, NJ) committed to the Red Flash last fall and will make an immediate impact on next year's team. She will graduate Freehold Township High School in New Jersey where she was instrumental in creating the team. Jeffreys participated in the New Jersey State High School Swimming Championships in March. She possesses excellent leadership skills and will contribute immediately in the sprint freestyle events as well as the relays. Jeffreys also competed in track and field during her first three years of high school, competing in the pole vault and javelin. She will major in business administration.

Sirae Riley (Lebanon, PA) will graduate from Cedar Crest High School in Lebanon, PA in June. She is an excellent sprinter who will make an immediate impact within the Northeast Conference. She joins the Red Flash with an extensive swimming resume that includes four straight years as a state qualifier. Her school's 200-yard freestyle relay squad achieved first-team National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association All-America status twice and garnered all-state distinction. Sirae is also a member of the Lebanon YMCA swim team where she has been a district and state champion. She also represented her team at YMCA Nationals. Sirae will study either elementary and special education or criminal justice.

Alicia Vasiladis (Windsor, Ontario) is a backstroker from Saint Thomas of Villanova High School in Windsor, Ontario. She was the first individual medalist in her school's history at the Provincial level and has been competing with the Windsor Aquatic Club for the past three years. She will make an immediate impact in the backstroke and can also be called upon to compete in the sprint freestyle events. She will study physical therapy at Saint Francis.
