Ryosuke Irie, Kosuke Hagino Shine at Japan Swim

Ryosuke Irie and Kosuke Hagino definitely were the stars of the show during night one at the Japan Swim 2015.

Ryosuke Irie, who is ranked second in the world in the men’s 100-meter back with a 53.15 from the BHP Super Series, topped the semifinal heats with a 53.48.  Masaki Kaneko qualified second in 53.76 to move to sixth in the world, while Junya Koga qualified third in 53.96.

Kosuke Hagino jumped to third in the world in the men’s 400-meter free with a 3:45.19 for the win.  Only Mack Horton (3:42.84) and David McKeon (3:44.28) have been faster.  Yosuke Miyamoto placed second in 3:48.58 with Naito Ehara earning third in 3:48.70.  Miyamoto and Ehara now stand ninth and 10th in the world rankings.

Yasuhiro Koseki moved to fifth in the world in the men’s 100-meter breast with a 1:00.03 to lead semis.  Kosuke Kitajima, the multiple Olympic gold medalist and living legend in the stroke, qualified second in 1:00.31 for seventh in the world rankings.  Ryo Tateishi qualified third in 1:00.46.

Kanako Watanabe raced her way to sixth in the world in the women’s 50-meter breaststroke with a 31.07 for the win.  Satomi Suzuki took second in 31.15 for ninth in the world, while Mina Matsushima and Yukino Miyasaka tied for third with 31.21s.

Natsumi Hoshi led the way in the women’s 100-meter fly semis with a time of 58.63.  Rino Hosoda took second in 59.42 with Masako Kuroki qualifying third in 59.61.

Noriko Inada captured the women’s 50-meter backstroke title in 28.36.  Miyuki Takemura placed second in 28.40 with Natsumi Sakai posting a Japanese junior record in 28.55.

Chihiro Igarashi won the women’s 400-meter free in 4:10.10 with Asami Chida taking second in 4:11.29. Chinatsu Sato wound up third in 4:11.67 with Asari Wada just missing the podium with a 4:11.68 for fourth.
