Ryan Lochte Wins Twice at SwimMAC Road to Rio Meet

Members of SwimMAC Carolina’s Team Elite, including five-time Olympic gold medalist Ryan Lochte, competed on Saturday in Huntersville, N.C. as their final tune-up for the U.S. Olympic Trials later this month. In addition to swimmers from the host SwimMAC, the meet’s evening session featured member’s of North Carolina’s swim team as well as a trio from the South Carolina Swim Club.

Lochte opened the evening with a win in the 200 free, where he posted a time of 1:49.17. He later swam a 1:02.19 in the 100 breast for by far the best time of the competition.

Cammile Adams put up a strong effort in her signature 200 fly. Adams clocked 2:07.59 for the 14th-fastest time in the world this year and the top time by an American.

Katie Meili, who ranks 10th in the world in the 100 breast with a 1:06.49, came in at 1:07.10 in her signature event on Saturday.

The 50 freestyles were conducted in a four-round elimination format. Cullen Jones had the top time of the evening on the men’s side with a 22.04. Among Americans, only Nathan Adrian (21.68) and Anthony Ervin (21.98) have been faster this year. Madison Kennedy won the women’s event in 24.97, well short of her 24.45 from the Arena Pro Series in Mesa that ranks seventh in the world.

Jimmy Feigen popped a time of 49.46 to win the men’s 100 free. In the 200 back, defending Olympic gold medalist Tyler Clary cruised to a win in 2:00.27.

Kathleen Baker touched the wall in 1:01.53 in the 100 back. The World Championship finalist recently returned to Charlotte for the summer following her freshman year at Cal.

Matthew Josa posted a strong 52.94 to win the 100 fly ahead of teammate Tim Phillips (54.54).
