Four-time Olympian and current world record holder Ryan Lochte shared on social media that his “99-years-young” grandmother had survived COVID-19.

COVID-19 has spread across the world this year, causing the Olympic Games in Tokyo to be pushed back an entire year and has caused the majority of the world to stay quarantined in their homes.

Ryan Lochte is in the middle of his preparation for what would be his fifth Olympic Games at age 35. He is currently quarantined at his home in Gainesville, Florida and is still all-in on preparing for the Games despite the postponement. He currently has two children and would potentially be just the third American swimmer to swim at five Olympic Games if he qualifies for the Tokyo Games.

Lochte’s grandmother is one of the many confirmed recovered cases of COVID-19 this year. Notable swimmers Boglarka Kapas and Dominik Kozma of Hungary have since recovered from the coronavirus as well.

Lochte won his first Olympic medals at the 2004 Games in Athens, where he earned gold as a member of the United States’ 800 freestyle relay and claimed a silver medal in the 200 individual medley. The 200 medley is Lochte’s best chance to qualify for the 2021 Games in Tokyo. Lochte is the world-record holder in that event.
