Ryan Held Blasts 45.92 100 Butterfly on Night Two of OSU Invite

N.C. State’s Ryan Held earned the title of the fastest man in the 100 butterfly so far this season as he posted a 45.92 in the event, to secure himself as the only man to have gone under 46 seconds this year.

In the first race of the evening, the 200 medley relay, the N.C. State women put together a 1:37.25 to win the race. Notre Dame was right behind in 1:38.43 while Kentucky took the third position in 1:38.90.

In the men’s race the Wolfpack took first and second with their A and B relays. The N.C. State A relay threw down a 1:23.53 while their B team was not far behind in 1:25.80. Third place went to Notre Dame in 1:26.67.

Aliena Schimidtke took the 100 butterfly in 51.94, solidifying herself as the only swimmer to swim under 53 seconds. In second place was Krista Duffield out of N.C. State with her time of 53.38. Erin Sheehan from Notre Dame touched third in 53.47.

N.C. State’s Held posted a nation-leading time in the men’s 100 butterfly on his way to victory in the event. Held’s 45.92 surpasses the old mark of 46.03 by Cal’s Justin Lynch. In second was Buckeye Michael Salanzer in 46.36. Right after his backstroke leg in the 200 medley relay, Andreas Valzaios earned third in 46.58.

The winner of the women’s 400 IM was Meg Bailey who turned in a time of 4:05.80. In the runner up position was Penn State’s Ally McHugh in 4:08.06, where she was closely followed by N.C. State’s Hannah Moore who swam a 4:08.74.

The men’s race featured 500 freestyle champion from earlier in the meet, N.C. State’s Anton Ipsen, narrowly defeat Yale’s Kei Hyogo 3:44.28 to 3:44.73. Pittsburg’s Samy Helmbacher earned third with this time of 3:45.80.

During a brief break in the main tank the divers took their turn on the boards. South Carolina’s Julia Vincent took the women’s 1-meter after her 3-meter victory from yesterday. Vincent’s total score was 3:12.70 while Pitt’s Meme Sharpe was in second with 288.85. Third place went to Buckeye Camryn McPherson with 281.05

The men had the 3-meter competition today and in that we saw Kentucky junior Sebstian Masterton take the win with a score of 379.90 while Notre Dame’s Joe Coumos earned second with his score of 373.65. Thrid place went to Hector Garcia Boissier out of Penn State with 358.35.

The action in the pool continued with the women’s 200 freestyle where we saw Kentucky’s Geena Freriks take the win in a time of 1:45.39. Abbie Dolan out of Notre Dame trailed Freriks by about a half second with ther 1:45.90. Third went to Kentucky’s Ali Galyer who turned in a 1:46.32.

N.C. State’s Justin Ress took the top spot in the men’s 200 freestyle when he touched first in 1:33.92. Joshua Fleagle was second in 1:34.48 while Isaac Jones out of Kentucky touched third in a time of 1:35.50.

The breaststrokers were next as the men and women each competed in the 100 distance. Bailiey Bonnett swam a 59.60 to take the win and mark herself as the only woman under the 1:00 barrier at the meet. Bonnett’s teammate Madison Winstead was second in 1:00.17. Pitt’s Lina Rathsack touched third in 1:00.48.

Penn State’s Kaelen Freund was able to edge out the Wolfpack duo of Jacob Molacek and Daniel Graber by swimming a 53.26. Molacek and Graber were each under 54 seconds with a 53.69 and a 53.92, respectively.

The 100 backstroke was up next in Columbus as the Kentucky Wildcats picked up another win with Asia Seidt swimming a swift 51.17. N.C. State’s Elise Haan was the next closest in 52.04 while Notre Dame freshman Carly Quast turned in a 52.27 for third place.

The N.C. State men completed a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 backstroke with Andreas Vazaios, Coleman Stewart and Hennessey Stuart turning in times of 45.63, 46.43 and 46.73 respectively.

Kentucky put assembled a winning team in the 800 freestyle relay who produced a 7:06.10 while the N.C. State Wolfpack touched second in 7:10.01. Notre Dame earned third with their time of 7:14.02.

The men’s relays saw the Wolfpack beat out Kentucky by almost ten full seconds with their winning time of 6:19.60 while the Wildcats posted a 6:28.14. Host team OSU swam to a third place finish in a time of 6:29.04.

Check division 2 results, fall frenzy an unshaven Paul Pijulet went 45.6 . Wow ! Also the QU relay 200 Med went 1:25.0
