Ryan Cochrane, Brittany MacLean Sure to Shine at Canada Trials

The psych sheet for the Canada Trials has been released and it is shaping up to be a quick meet featuring some stellar match-ups. Brittany MacLean and Ryan Cochrane are both seeded exceptionally well in the distance freestyle events.

Noemie Thomas and Katerine Savard will face off in the 50 fly. The two are currently seeded with a 26.23 and 26.27 respectfully.

The women’s 100 back will be a race to watch with Brooklynn Snodgrass, Domonique Bouchard and Hilary Caldwell all seeded within .54 seconds of each other.

Russell Wood is seeded almost an entire second faster than everyone else in the men’s 100 back with a time of 54.71. Omar Pinzon and Hennessey Stuart are close behind with 55.50 and 55.71 respectfully.

Chantal VanLandeghem, Victoria Poon and Sandrine Mainville will show down in the 100 free. VanLandeghem is currently seeded first with a 54.53 but she is followed closely by Poon (54.67) and Manville (54.73).

The men’s 100 free will also be a bit of a show down with Yuri Kisil, Santo Condorelli and Geoff Cheah seeded within .44 seconds of each other.

Brittany MacLean (4:05.91) has a seed time four seconds faster than the second place seed Samantha Cheverton (4:09.85) in the women’s 400 free. MacLean is also seeded a whopping twelve seconds ahead of everyone else in the women’s 800 free.

Teamates Ryan Cochrane and Jeremy Bagshaw currently top the men’s 400 free psych sheet. Cochrane is seeded with a 3:43.46 while Bagshaw has a 3:50.28. Anders Lie Nielsen is sure to give Bagshaw a good race as he is seeded with a 3:50.62.

Both the men’s and women’s 200 back are sure to be close races. On the women’s side, Hilary Caldwell and Dominique Bouchard are seeded with a 2:08.55 and a 2:08.99 respectfully, while Russell Wood (1:59.50), Omar Pinzon (1:59.76) and Hennessey Stuart (1:59.95) will duke it out on the men’s side.

Ryan Cochrane’s 1500 free is sure to be an exciting race to watch. Cochrane is currently seeded with a 14:44.03 compared to William Brothers, seeded second, who has a time of 15:15.35.

If you’re going to preview a meet, maybe look further than the psych sheets alone. Some of the swimmers you named, such as Anders Nielsen, aren’t Canadian and won’t race the A final.
