Russia Opens European Aquatic Championships With Synchro and Diving Golds

In the first day of action at the 2016 LEN European Aquatic Championships medals were awarded in synchronized swimming’s team technical event and in the diving team event. Russia came out on top in both.

Synchronized Swimming

The team from Russia scored an impressive 94.0994 points to secure gold in the Team Technical. This group was continuing a winning streak, having claimed the title at the last five World Championships.

Ukraine finished second, also cracking the 90 point marker, finishing with 92.0844. Third went to the Italians with 88.9053 points.

Diving

Russia also claimed gold on the boards in the team event. Nadezhda Bazhina and Viktor Minibaev scored 413.30 points to top the podium with their third straight European title.

The Ukrainian duo of Iuliia Prokopchuk and Oleksandr Gorshkovozov earned silver with their final score of 396.40. The team fell from first to fourth with only two dives remaining, but won their podium position with strong dives at the end.

Great Britian’s Matty Lee and Georgia Ward earned bronze with a total of 353.85 points. The host country’s divers’ performances were highlighted by Lee’s perfect 10 on his 10 meter Platform dive.
