The ninth race of the FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup 2015 took place yesterday in Lac Megantic (CAN) with 37 swimmers (21 men and 16 women) taking the departure.

In the men’s race, Rhys Mainstone of Australia emerged victorious in a time of 2h08m58s60. The Aussie had placed second in Lac St-Jean race and first in Noumea, New Caledonia in April, his best results of the 2015 season.

Brazil’s Allan Do Carmo touched home one second later (2h08m59s30) while his compatriot Diogo Villarinho finished third (2h09m00s10). The two Brazilians had also placed second and third in the Patagones-Viedma race in Argentina.

Italy’s Rachele Bruni dominated the operations in the women’s race, completing the event in 2h23m09s00. Anna Olasz of Hungary took bronze in front of the German Angela Maurer who claimed bronze in 2h23m44s10. Bruni has been very consistent this season as she topped four races already (Patagones-Viedma, Abu Dhabi, Setubal).

The 10km marathon swimming elite will next meet in Chun’an in People’s Republic of China after a two-month break, on October 11, for the tenth leg of this annual competition.
