Relay Lineups Out for Day One Prelims; Mallory Comerford Anchoring U.S. Women

The relay lineups have been posted for the first day of prelims at the 2017 FINA World Championships. Both the women’s and men’s 400 free relays will be held on the first day.

Notably, Mallory Comerford will make her World Championships debut as the anchor leg of the U.S. women’s 400 free relay, swimming with Lia NealKelsi Worrell and Olivia Smoliga. The U.S. will rest Simone Manuel and also Katie Ledecky, who should both join the team in finals.

Ledecky was only sixth in the 100 free at U.S. Nationals last month, but she anchored the U.S. squad to a silver medal at the 2016 Olympics. She also will swim the individual 400 free on day one.

The other two Olympic medalists from Rio, Australia and Canada, are also resting key players in the morning. Australia goes with Emily SeebohmMadison WilsonBrittany Elmslie and Shayna Jack, resting Bronte Campbell and Emma McKeon, while Canada’s relay, sans Penny Oleksiak, includes Sandrine MainvilleMichelle ToroRebecca Smith and Kayla Sanchez.

In the men’s relay, the favored Americans will go with Blake PieroniMichael ChadwickZach Apple and Townley Haas. Both Nathan Adrian and Caeleb Dressel figure to come onto the team for the finals.

Australia’s men, seeded second, will swim Cameron McEvoyZac EnsertiAlexander Graham and Jack Cartwright.
