After originally giving her verbal commitment to the University of Georgia, Regan Barney has decommitted from the Bulldogs and given her verbal commitment to Princeton University.
Barney shared,
“I am so excited to be apart of such a wonderful team! There’s no doubt in my mind that at Princeton, I will beable to excel in the classroom and in the pool. I am confident that the support from Coach Teeter and Coach Suzanne, as well as my teammates, will help me improve athletically. Thank you to everyone who has supported me over all these years and Go Tigers!!”
Barney swims for Longhorn Aquatics where she is a versatile swimmer who excels in backstroke and IM events. Her best times are (SCY/LCM):
- 100 Back 54.76/ 1:03.57
- 200 Back 1:56.23/ 2:15.76
- 200 IM 1:59.06/ 2:17.01
- 400 IM 4:10.99/ 4:47.00
- 200 Fly 2:00.65/ 2:14.69
- 500 Free 4:49.94/4:16.98
Barney will be a tremendous addition to the Ivy League which featured a tightly contested meet in 2016. At last year’s Championships, she would have finished third in the 200 backstroke. Tiger Lindsay Temple (1:55.14) won the event in meet record fashion. She’ll be a senior in Barney’s debut season. She would have been sixth in last year’s 100 backstroke. Temple finished third and Princeton freshman Joanna Curry (55.86) was seventh. More likely, the Tigers will put Barney in the 400 IM on day two where she could have won the event by a half second last year. Her best 200 IM would also have been a bronze medal worth performance last February.
