Radoslaw Kawecki, Balog and Mencarini Cruise to World Rankings in 200 Back at Hungary National Championships

The men’s 200-meter back proved to be the race to watch during day six of the Hungary National Championships with all three top finishers posting times that fit into the world rankings.

First in the men’s 200-meter back went to Radoslaw Kawecki who finished with a time of 1:56.87, a time that would earn him a spot in the top ten in the world rankings for 2015. Kawecki already owns a spot higher though, posting a 1:56.38 earlier this year at the Polish Senior Championships, leaving only .49 seconds in difference between the two races. Gabor Balog took second with a 1:57.76, while Luca Mencarini claimed third with a 1:57.90. Balog and Mencarini earned themselves fifteenth and sixteenth in the world rankings respectively.

Top Ten World Rankings: Men’s 200 Back

Krisztian Takacs led prelims of the men’s 50-meter free with a time of 23.12. Maxim Lovanovszkij grabbed the second-place seed, while Mohamed Ismail Mohamed Mazen was a close third with a 23.29.

Peter Holuda stepped up in semi-finals to grab the first-place seed with a time of 22.88. Richard Bohus joined him up at the top with a 22.92 for second, while Takacs slipped to third with a 23.00.

Elena Gemo led the women’s 50-meter fly in prelims with a 27.21. Evelyn Verraszto took second with a 27.54, and Silvia Di Pietro rounded out the top three with a 27.63.

Di Pietro succeeded in dropping 1.18 seconds from her prelims time of 27.63 to snag the first-place seed with a 26.45. Gemo moved to second with a 26.64. Verraszto was third with a 27.12.

Bence Pulai posted a 52.97 in prelims of the men’s 100-meter fly to take the first-place seed. Michael Rubacek was second with a 54.17, while Omar Ahmed Mohamed Eissa finished third with a 54.21.

Pulai maintained his lead throughout semi-finals with a time of 52.88. Tamas Kenderesi moved up to second with a 53.36, while Laszlo Cseh claimed third with a 53.45. Cseh is currently ranked thirteenth in the world rankings with a scorching 51.97.

Katalin Burian led the women in prelims of the 200-meter back touching with a time of 2:14.34. Zsuzsanna Jakabos claimed the second-place seed with a 2:16.84, while Dalma Matyasovsky took third with a 2:17.34.

Burian kept the first-place seed with a time of 2:11.29, dropping 3.05 seconds from her prelims time of 2:14.34. Reka Gyorgy moved up the second-place seed with a 2:13.92, while Jakabos slipped to third with a time of 2:15.47.

Prelims of the women’s 800-meter free went to Adel Juhasz who led the group with a time of 8:53.08. Teammate Janka Juhasz posted an 8:55.32 for second, while Bettina Boszormenyi rounded out the top three with a time of 8:55.97.

Erika Ferraoli claimed the win in finals of the women’s 100-meter free with a time of 54.67. Di Pietro took second overall with a time of 55.17, while Jakabos was third with a 55.30.

 

Ganna Dzerkel claimed first in finals of the women’s 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:28.82. Anna Sztankovics finished second with a 2:29.19, while Viktoria Kardos took third overall with a 2:32.73.

Daniel Gyurta dashed to a first-place finish and the fifteenth-place world ranking in the men’s 200-meter breaststroke, posting a time of 2:09.84. David Horvath finished second with a 2:13.93, while Edoardo Georgette took third with a final time of 2:15.45.

The day ended with the 800-meter free relay team of Armin Remenyi, Adam Telegdy, Zoltan Drigan and Norbert Szabo of Kobanya Sport Club taking first at the meet and squeezing their way into the Top Twenty world rankings. The relay posted a 7:31.76 to earn the sixteenth-place spot in the world rankings. Egri Uzo Club was second with a 7:39.58, while BVSC Zuglo took third with a 7:39.91.
