Simone Sabbioni lowered a techsuit-fueled Italian record in the men’s 100-meter back during day one of the Italian Swimming Championships.

Simone Sabbioni downed the Italian record in the men’s 100-meter back with a top time of 53.49.  That swim eclipsed the previous record of 53.77 set by Mirco Di Tora at the 2009 World Championships, and shot Sabbioni up to seventh in the world rankings. Christopher Ciccarese finished second in 54.16 with Niccolo Bonacchi taking third in 54.51.

The Italian Swimming Federation has since posted video of the record-breaking swim.
