SANTA CLARA, California, June 21. A triumphant Connor Jaeger of Club Wolverine managed to crack the top 15 in the world with a winning effort in the men’s 400-meter free at the Arena Grand Prix in Santa Clara.

Jaeger pushed the pace late in the race to win with a 3:47.98. That swim shot him to 12th in the world rankings as just the 12th swimmer to break 3:48 this year. He’s typically faster at this time of the year, however, with an in-season best of 3:46.93 here at the Santa Clara stop of the Grand Prix a year ago. His time did beat his previous top time this year of 3:48.89 from the Charlotte stop.

The Woodlands’ Michael McBroom, who won the 800-meter free last night, took second tonight in 3:49.26. Canada’s Ryan Cochrane clinched third in 3:50.84.

NBAC’s Conor Dwyer (3:51.47) and Matt McLean (3:51.99) took fourth and fifth in the event. Wisconsin’s Michael Weiss (3:53.88), Badgers’ Ryan Feeley (3:54.20) and Gators’ Mitch D’Arrigo (3:55.39) rounded out the championship finale.
