Queens’ Patricia Castro Ortega Wins 4th Title With NCAA D2 Record in 100 Free

Queens’ Patricia Castro Ortega had a strong last 50 at the 2016 NCAA Division II Championships to take the win in the women’s 100-yard free in 48.54. The senior broke her own NCAA D II record of 48.92 she set last year at this meet. This is her fourth individual win and fourth DII record this weekend.

Drury’s Wen Xu, who broke the D II record in the 50 free earlier this weekend, took second in 49.41. Carson Newman’s Margaret Stansberry finished third in 49.92.

Truman State’s Nicole Sisson (50.26), Queens’ Kyrie Dobson (50.30), UC-San Diego’s Colleen Daley (50.73), Florida Southern’s Kelsey Gouge (50.88), and Queens’ Josephina Lorda (51.08) rounded out the top eight.

If she don’t nake the Spanish Olympic team it’ll be a bigger crime than Watergate — unless she completely falls apart @ their Trials next month — which is about as likely as Katie Ledecky qualifying for Rio in the 50 free.
