On the Cover

Athletes, even young athletes, must learn to deal with the mental and physical stresses that go along with training and competing in a sport. But how much is healthy and how much detrimental? How early are youngsters being exposed to stress, and how early should they be? Jim Tierney presents an overview of the problem in this month’s issue, along with the results of a recent survey of age group swimmers. He believes it is the responsibility of coaches, parents and the athletes themselves, not to let sport-related stress get out of hand.
