Poseidon’s Phil Costin Verbally Commits to South Carolina Gamecocks

NEW COMMIT: Phil Costin has verbally committed to swim for the University of South Carolina, beginning with the 2018-2019 season. Costin is from Richmond, Virginia. He’s a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and a senior at Cosby High School.

Costin swims for Poseidon Swimming, Inc. where he is fairly versatile. His top times include:

  • 400 IM 3:58.39
  • 200 IM 1:51.70
  • 200 Breast 2:04.50
  • 200 Free 1:40.02
  • 100 Free 45.65
  • 50 Free 20.88

Costin told Swimming World,

“I’m so excited and am so thankful I have been given the opportunity to swim for the Gamecocks. I know the University of South Carolina will be the perfect place for me!”

Cody Bekemeyer and Jack Smith will be seniors and the likely leaders of the Gamecocks 400 IM group next fall. Remaining at the top of the sprint freestyle charts in the 2017-2018 season will be Justin Rose, Will Countie, and Itay Goldfaden.

Nathan Walton, Mitchell Gariepy, and Garrison Johnson will also make the move to Columbia next fall. Johnson is Costin’s club teammate.
