LAUSANNE, Switzerland, October 2. Arseniy Lavrentyev, a two-time Olympic open water swimmer for Portugal, has been banned for a year after failing to keep up with his whereabouts within the World Anti-Doping Agency system on three separate occasions.

These three missed tests took place within an 18-month period, and have now results in a one-year ban dating back to Feb. 6, 2014. The punishment is fairly common for anyone with missed tests, but it can sometimes lead to much tougher sanctions.

Lavrentyev, who was born in Russia, swam for Portugal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics in open water.  In 2008, he took 22nd overall, before placing 19th in 2012.
