Pieter Timmers Among Three Belgian Swimmers Selected for World Champs
Pieter Timmers, the Olympic silver medalist in the men’s 100 free, will aim to match or better that result at this summer’s World Championships in Budapest, as he is one of three Belgian swimmers who was selected to make the trip.
Timmers will swim the 50, 100 and 200 free in Hungary, while his teammate Louis Croenen will compete in the 100 and 200 fly. The only female swimmer Belgium is sending is Kimberly Buys, scheduled to swim the 50 and 100 fly.

Croenen finished eighth in the 200 fly final in Rio, while Buys was a semifinalist in the women’s 100 fly.
This means that Belgium will have no relays competing in Budapest, and National team head coach Ronald Claes made no secret that he’s expecting better over the remainder of the quad. The below tweet roughly translates to: “It’s time for young people to show themselves in years to come.”
