Day three finals of the 2017 Phillips 66 Nationals saw a pool filled with both happiness and despair as multiple athletes suffered disqualifications.

Ella Eastin of Stanford was one of the athletes who suffered a disqualification due to “the Lochte rule”, missing out on a spot to represent Team USA in the 400 IM. Instead, Olympians Leah Smith and Elizabeth Beisel will represent Team USA.

Chase Kalisz and Jay Litherland topped the men’s competition in the 400 IM, while Lilly King and Kevin Cordes sprinted to the tops of the 50 breaststroke.

Swimming World’s Peter H. Bick and USA Today’s Aaron Dorster captured all of the heartbreak and happiness as day three concluded.
