Peter Bernek, Boglarka Kapas Distance Free Champs at Hungary National Championships

Peter Bernek and Boglarka Kapas continued their reign over the distance free events during day three of the Hungary National Championships with Bernek claiming the win in the 200-meter free and Kapas claiming the 1500-meter free.

Prelims of day three of the Hungary National Championships began with some quick swims from the men in the 50-meter breaststroke. Francesco Di Lecce clocked a swift 27.91 to be the only contender under 28 seconds. Nicocolo Ossola was a 28.25, and David Horvath posted a 28.57 to grab the third-place seed.

Later in semi-finals Di Lecce maintained his hold on the first-place seed with a 28.07. Financsek Gabor moved up to the second-place seed with a 28.49, while Tamas Szabo took third with a 28.50.

Erika Musso finished on top in prelims of the women’s 200-meter free with a 2:02.38. Zsuzsanna Jakabos claimed the second-place seed with a 2:03.04, while Melinda Novoszath rounded out the top three with a 2:03.52.

Musso managed to shave off 1.81 seconds in semi-finals to keep her lead with a 2:00.57 finish. Ajna Kesely moved up in the rankings with a 2:01.14, while Boglarka Kapas took over the third-place seed with a 2:02.38.

Prelims of the men’s 200-meter fly saw Tamas Kenderesi out in front with a a finishing time of 2:00.90. Laszlo Cseh grabbed the second-place seed with a 2:01.80, while Ioannis Drymonakos was third with a 2:02.81.

Bence Biczo flew to the top of semi-finals with a scorching 1:56.58 in the men’s 200-meter fly, dropping over six seconds from his prelims time of 2:02.91. Kenderesi dropped back to second with a 1:59.29, while Drymonakos turned in a 1:59.93 to maintain his third-place seed.

The men’s 800-meter free saw Samuel Pizzeti with a slim lead over the competition. Pizzeti finished with an 8:07.34 to claim the first-place seed. Close behind were Akaram Ahmed and Peter Bernek who tied for the second-place seed with a finishing time of 8:07.43.

Bernek claimed the men’s 200-meter free with a final time of 1:48.93. Cseh finished second overall with a 1:49.09, while Alex Di Giorgio took third with a 1:49.11.

Sara Joo maintained her hold on the women’s 100-meter back with a final time of 1:03.14 to clinch the victory. Reka Gyorgy was second with a 1:03.25, while Katalin Burian finished third with a 1:03.60.

Kapas continued to impress in the distance free events by shaving an entire minute off of her 1500-meter free prelim time of 17:27.79 to claim the win with a 16:27.00. Adel Juhasz finished second overall with a final time of 16:34.08, while Novoszath was third with a 16:49.79.

Finals of the men’s 100-meter back went to Gabor Balog who finished with a 54.64. Cseh was a close second with a final time of 54.72. Radoslaw Kawecki rounded out the top three with a time of 55.14.

The final event of the day was the women’s 100-meter breaststroke and it was Ganna Dzerkal who claimed the win with a finishing time of 1:09.72, dropping 2.4 seconds off her time in semi-finals. Dalma Sebestyen took second overall with a 1:10.21, while Viktoria Kardos finished third with a 1:11.16.
