Penny Palfrey Breaks Molokai Channel Record

MOLOKAI, Hawaii, November 30. PENNY Palfrey crossed the Molokai Channel (Kaiwi Channel) in a time of 12 hours 7 minutes today, breaking the existing locally recognized record held by Daren Miller of 12 hours 12 minutes set earlier this year.

The Molokai Channel was also her sixth recognized swim in her quest to become the first person to complete the Ocean's Seven. She is scheduled to make her seventh and final channel crossing in August 2012 on the North Channel between Scotland and Ireland.

Escort pilot Matt Buckman and paddler Jeff Kozlovich guided her on another one of her Hawaiian Island crossings.

Penny reported, "This morning Jeff scouted out a suitable starting place for me where I could navigate through surf and large jagged rocks to exit and re-enter the water from a small beach to commence my swim at a little after 7.30 am…challenged by large and confused swells for the entire 26-mile distance, I finished after dark at Sandy's Beach through a large shore break in a time of 12 hours and 7 minutes."
