Paul Frost, the son of former Australia national team coach Doug Frost, has been named by Australian media as the man arrested and subsequently charged today in Sydney for allegedly grooming and sexually assaulting two boys while working at his father’s swimming school.

Police confirmed that a man was helping police with their enquiries after being escorted from a Sylvania home in the early hours of the morning in Sydney. Paul Frost was then charged with child sexual assault, according to reports in Australia.

The arrest – followed by an ABC television camera crew – followed allegations from two men that they were abused by the 44-year-old as children, between 1997 and 2003, while members of the Doug Frost Swim School squad team in Padstow, southwest Sydney.

Bankstown Police Area Command detectives started to investigate the allegations in August, according to media reports in Australia.

Detective Superintendent Murray Reynolds told Australian media that Paul Frost, who is alleged to have acted alone, groomed his victims while coaching their squad when the alleged victims were aged between 11 and 16. Det. Supt. Reynolds told Australian media:

“We’ve had victims of this fellow who have come forward after many years. The detectives here have conducted a very thorough investigation that has resulted in them coming forward separately. They were between the ages of 11 and 16 when this occurred and the squad trained before and after school.”

Frost is reported to have been charged after helping police with their inquiries at Sutherland police station. Detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crime Squad also assisted with the investigation.

Police say the investigation into grooming and abuse at the since-closed swim school is ongoing.

During the years specified in the allegations, Frost’s father, Doug Frost, was coaching Ian Thorpe from exceptional junior to the youngest World champion among men in history (over 400m freestyle, aged 15 in 1998) and on to a multiple Olympic champion and medallist and one of the all-time greats of freestyle swimming.
