Pat Mead was added to USA Swimming’s banned list as of June 3rd. His wife Maureen was officially banned on February 16.

Pat served as the head coach of the Towson University swimming and diving team from 1998 until this past season. Maureen was the diving coach.

In October a phone was found recording the women’s team in their locker room as they changed. An investigation revealed that the phone belonged to Maureen. She was charged with a felony and two misdemeanors and eventually was handed three years probation after reaching a plea deal.

Pat was also put on administrative leave during the investigation. He later resigned in December.

Pat has been banned for violating two sections of USA Swimming’s Code of Conduct, intended to protect the athlets.

CODE OF CONDUCT (2002-2008) – SECTION 304.3.5

304.3.5 Any sexual contact or advance or other inappropriate sexually oriented behavior or action directed towards an athlete by a coach, official, trainer, or other person who, in the context of swimming, is in a position of authority over that athlete.

CODE OF CONDUCT (1999-2008) – SECTION 304.3.15

304.3.15 Any other act, conduct or omission not provided for above, which is detrimental to the image or reputation of USA Swimming, a LSC or the sport of swimming.

I think that depends on what you think “the allegations” are. I don’t believe this is related to the incidents in the fall. He was not charged during that investigation and resigned voluntarily in December. For him to be banned months after Maureen leads to speculation that this is due to a separate incident.

Given that the dates of the violations are 2002-2008 and 1999-2008 and the facr that USA Swimming ( in the swim swam article printed yesterday) said it is not related to the incident with Maureen, it would appear that it was a seperate incident. The dates of the violation make me believe this was a long time coming and I for one am not surprised.

USA Swimming released on Monday on their website that Brock Turner is not a eligible for USA Swimming membership. He does not currently have membership to lose and will never be granted it.

Glad he was caught at 20. Pat has been getting away with abuse, lies and deceit for years. I hope eyes have been opened to the person he is. No coaching ability should allow for daily verbal abuse to talented athletes and now PROVEN sexual abuse to a swimmer. The sport and athletes don’t need him. He has coasted on the talent of others for far too long and is now left with no one but himself. Karma Pat.
