Paralympic Games (Day 7 Men): Reece Dunn, Maksym Krypak Break World Records to Claim Gold

The men’s races at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo continued to showcase the fastest swimmers in the world.

Great Britain’s Reece Dunn surged to the world record in the men’s 200 IM SM14 class. He touched the wall in 2:08.02 to earn the gold medal in the event. Brazil’s Gabriel Bendeira took the silver medal in 2:09.56, while Ukraine’s Vasyl Krainyk took the bronze in 2:09.92.

Dunn’s record broke the previous Paralympic mark of 2:08.16 set by Japan’s Dai Tokairin in 2019.

The men’s 100 butterfly S10 class brought another world record as Ukraine’s Makysm Krypyak won the gold medal in 54.15 to break the record of 54.71 set by his compatriot Denys Dubrove at the Rio games in 2016. Italy’s Stefano Raimondi took the silver (55.04) and Australia’s Col Pearse took the bronze (57.66).

In the men’s 400 freestyle S8 Paralympic class, Russian Paralympic Committee’s Andrei Nikolaev won the gold medal in 4:25.16. Italy’s Alberto Amodeo took the silver in 4:25.93 and Matthew Torres of the U.S. took the bronze in 4:28.47. U.S. teammate Robert Griswold was fifth (4:31.96).

In the men’s 100 free S12 class, Azerbaijan’s Raman Salei earned the gold medal in 52.69. Ukraine’s Maksym Veraska took the silver medal in 52.87, while Great Britain’s Stephen Clegg took the bronze in 53.43.

In the men’s 50 breaststroke SB2 class, Mexico’s Arnulfo Castorena won gold in 59.25, leading a 1-3-4 finish for Mexico with Jesus Hernandez (1:02.27) and Cristopher Tronco (1:04.46). The silver medal went to Australia’s Grant Patterson (1:01.79).

In the men’s 50 free Paralympic S7 class, Ukraine claimed the gold and bronze medals with Andrii Trusov winning gold in 27.43 and Yevhenii Bohodaiko taking the bronze in 27.99. Colombia’s Carlos Daniel Serrano Zarate took the silver in 27.84.
