Pan Pacific Championships: Night One Finals Heat Sheets; Summer McIntosh Chasing WR in 200 Freestyle

Several world records will be on watch during the first night of finals at the Pan Pacific Championships, including Summer McIntosh chasing the global mark in the 200-meter freestyle. McIntosh eased through her prelims heat in the morning and is expected to dial up the intensity on Wednesday night at the William Woollett Aquatics Center in Irvine, California.

There are 11 finals scheduled for Night One, with the 400 mixed medley relay closing out the session. Finals will also be contested in the women’s and men’s 50 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 backstroke and 200 butterfly. In distance competition, medals will be handed out in the men’s 800 freestyle and the women’s 1500 freestyle, where Katie Ledecky is the top seed and world-record holder.

The Pan Pacific Championships utilize a unique rule that limits countries to advancing a pair of athletes to a championship final, which means several prominent names will be in action in the consolation final. Look for fast performances out of the B Finals from the likes of Claire Curzan in the 100 backstroke and Thomas Heilman in the 200 butterfly.
