Paige Madden Examines Her Career During Visit With Champion’s Mojo Podcast

Olympian Paige Madden recently joined the award-winning Champion’s Mojo Podcast and went in-depth about how consistency is a key for her success, how she actually loves and approaches pressure and some decisions that she’s made that are against conventional “swimming wisdom,” yet have helped her.

“It’s not necessarily what happens that day that determines your success,” Madden said. “It’s what you’ve done consistently leading up to that day.”

As the reigning NCAA Champion in the 200, 500 and 1650 freestyles,  Madden also answers a question about transgender swimmer Lia Thomas. She shares insightful stories on being on the United States’ 800 freestyle relay at the Tokyo Olympics. That relay went under the previous world record, but was edged by China. She was on that relay with veterands Katie Ledecky and Allison Schmitt and needed coach Todd DeSorbo to keep her from “freaking out.”

Madden is an American-record holder who swims for Tokyo Frog Kings in the International Swimming League. The multi-time NCAA champion is currently training under DeSorbo at the University of Virginia.

As an asthmatic, Madden became ill when she came down with COVID-19 before the United States Olympic Trials. Despite a reduction in her lung capacity from the illness, she was able to come back and make the Olympic team in two events, touching second in the 400 free and third in the 200 free, which landed her relay duties. Madden is represented by the CG Sports Network.
