Oakland’s Tara Baxter Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team

ROCHESTER, Michigan, May 23. OAKLAND University swimming and diving senior Tara Baxter added one more honor to her repertoire Thursday, having been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team. By being named to the first team, Baxter will move to the national ballot for academic all-America selection.

The Manotick, Ontario native finished her senior season at OU with a pair of individual second –place finishes in The Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships, as well as swimming a leg on the first place 200-free relay team. She swam a season-best time of 57.30 in the 100 back and a time of 2:04.05 in the 200 back. Both times are good for second in the league. She garnered First Team All-League Honors for her accomplishments in The Summit League Championships. Baxter holds a 3.90 grade-point average as a biology major.

Baxter was also the female recipient of the Hollie. L. Lepley Award, the most prestigious award handed out by the Department of Athletics to the student-athlete who has accomplished the highest athletic achievement, academic achievement and community service.

CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams are selected by a district-wide vote of CoSIDA members from across District IV, which includes schools from the states of Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Alabama. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable). No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution.
