NSW State Championships: Ellen Gandy, Emily Seebohm, Tae Hwan Park Post Top Times in World

SYDNEY, Australia, February 12. THE final day of the NSW State Championships featured a bonanza of top-ranked times in the long course meter rankings.

Ellen Gandy smashed the women's 200 fly field with a scorching fast time of 2:05.95, jumping to the top of the world in the event. Cammile Adams was the previous pacesetter with a 2:06.76 from the Austin Grand Prix. Samantha Hamill (2:10.99) and Amy Smith (2:11.06) finished second and third.

Emily Seebohm topped the women's 200 IM world rankings with a blazing time of 2:11.55. That swim blasted by Alicia Coutts' previous bellwether mark of 2:12.18. Stephanie Rice continued her comeback from a shoulder injury with a second-place 2:13.84, while Natalie Wiegersma finished third in 2:14.81. Seebohm returned in the next women's event with a 27.90 to win the women's 50 back. Sophie Edington placed second in 27.98 as the top two times are the fastest times in the world this year. Zhao Xinyu picked up third in 28.43.

Matthew Abood upset James Magnussen, 22.34 to 22.65, in the men's 50 free. Tae Hwan Park completed the top three in 22.74, demonstrating some range for the distance specialist. Park returned to win the men's 1500 free in 14:47.38 to jump well into the top spot in the world rankings. Heerden Herman previously owned the best time with a 15:06.11. George O'Brien (15:23.80) and Lee Hyunseung (15:27.86) placed second and third.

Bronte Barratt raced to fifth in the world rankings in the women's 200 free with a 1:56.92. Melanie Schlanger ranked sixth with a second-place time of 1:57.32, while Angie Bainbridge finished third in 1:57.93 for ninth in the rankings.

Chris Wright claimed the men's 100 fly title in 52.60. Jayden Hadler (53.09) and Nick D'Arcy (53.33) rounded out the top three. Kate Haywood topped the women's 50 breast in 31.37. Leiston Pickett touched second in 31.43, while Sarah Katsoulis finished third in 31.49.

Craig Calder edged Kazuki Kohinata, 2:13.87 to 2:14.05, in the men's 200 breast. Nikolas Pregelj placed third in 2:15.09. Daiya Seto owned the men's 400 IM event with a nearly 10-second victory when he clocked a 4:13.78. Mitch Larkin took second in 4:23.04, while Daniel Tranter placed third in 4:23.42.

Gareth Kean clocked a 54.17 to win the men's 100 back. Hayden Stoeckel (54.34) and Ashley Delaney (54.78) earned second and third.
