Notre Dame Swimming & Diving Announces 2016-17 Competition Schedule

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men and women’s swimming – diving program has announced their meet schedule for the 2016-17 season. Second Year Head coach Mike Litzinger will oversee both the Men and Women’s who will compete as one unit for the first time since 1994. Coach Litzinger and his staff are excited for a schedule that has the team’s getting an early season start and solid new competition on the calendar.
“I am excited to be leading a new look Notre Dame Swimming & Diving Team. Being combined for the first time in 20 plus years adds to the energy both of our teams have generated in 2016,” commented Coach Litzinger.
The teams will get a head start on using that energy when they travel to East Lansing, Michigan to face Michigan State and Iowa at Charles McCaffree Pool onSeptember 30.
The home season kicks off at the Rolf’s Aquatic Center on October 7 for the traditional Dennis Stark Relays. Named for the first head coach of both teams, this year’s meet – the 52nd meet of its kind. The relays kick off a busy fall that will also include the 100th Anniversary of the Monogram Club weekend with a home meet vs Miami, Purdue, & Rutgers on October 28.
Two away meets in November are highlighted by a trip to Greensboro, North Carolina for the Greensboro Invitational at the Greensboro Aquatic Center from Nov. 17-19 giving both teams a chance to swim where the ACC Championships will be held.
The Irish start the new year welcoming a couple of Big Ten programs; Illinois and Iowa to the Rolph Aquatics Center for a two-day affair Jan. 12-13. Highlight of the new year will be the Shamrock Invitational meet that this year includes Ohio State, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Missouri State, and Grand Canyon. The two-day event is scheduled for Jan. 27-28 and will be the biggest meet the Irish host at home in the season.
The team’s last regular season meet for the season will be a trip up north to Ann Arbor, Michigan for the Michigan First Chance Invite.
The ACC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships are February 15-18 in Greensboro, NC. at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The Men’s team will then compete from Feb. 22-25 for the ACC Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships also to be held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Coach Litzinger will look for the Irish to improve on what they have already built in the 2015-16.

“The ACC Championship meet will be as competitive as ever and I am looking for our team to make significant improvement at that competition,” stated Coach Litzinger.
The Women’s NCAA Championships will be held on March 15-18 down state in Indianapolis, Indiana and the Men’s NCCA Championships will be held March 22-28, also in Indianapolis. Swimmers and Divers will need to qualify in order to participate in the NCAA Championships.
