Norway Short Course Nationals: Katharina Stiberg Sets Four National Records

KRISTIANSUND, Norway, March 31. THE Norway Short Course National Championships featured plenty of national records falling by the wayside, including for at the hands of Katharina Stiberg.

Stiberg broke the 28-second barrier in the women's 50 back with a time of 27.63. That effort lowered her national record of 28.26 set back in December of 2008. Stiberg returned in the women's 50 fly to set another national record. This time, she posted a 26.16 to smash her time of 26.45 set in 2007. Stiberg claimed her third national record with a 1:00.37 in the women's 100 IM. The readout beat her time of 1:00.78 set last December. Stiberg continued her stellar meet with a fourth national record when she hit the wall in 1:07.53 in the women's 100 breast. That swim nipped the 1:07.87 set by Anne-Marie Gulbrandsen in 2006.

Ingvild Snildal followed in the women's 100 fly with a Norwegian record of 58.81. Her swim cleared her previous record of 59.16 set a year ago at the 2008 World Short Course Championships. Snildal clinched her second national title with a 54.99 in the women's 100 free. That performance beat the 55.04 set by Henriette Brekke in December.

Gard Kvale gave the men a national record as well when he hit the wall in 1:58.28 during the men's 200 fly. The readout cut more than a second off his record of 1:59.69 set back in 2005.
