Northwestern’s Kyle Schack Promoted to Associate Head Coach

EVANSTON, Illinois, January 19. NORTHWESTERN has elevated Kyle Schack to associate head coach of the men's swimming and diving program, head coach Jarod Schroeder announced today (Jan. 19).

Schack is in his third season on staff in Evanston, joining the Wildcats after Schroeder was elevated to head coach in 2009 to replace legendary mentor Bob Groseth. In addition to Northwestern qualifying swimmers for the NCAA Championships in both of his full seasons at NU, Schack also has signed back-to-back top-25 ranked classes in his role of recruiting coordinator.

"Kyle is an integral part of our program," Schroeder said. "Over the past two years I have given him more and more responsibility, and I am naming him our Associate Head Coach as recognition for doing a great job. Kyle aspires to be a head coach and I think he is ready to lead a program."

Schack's recruiting has led to several young contributors who promise to make noise come Big Ten Championships time. In particular, breaststroker Uula Auren already has an NCAA `B' consideration time to his name while freshman Matthew Margritier quickly has become a legitimate sprint freestyle threat for the Wildcats. They were part of the No. 21 ranked recruiting class in the country according to Collegeswimming.com.

Schack also is a proven technical coach with a talent for motivation. In his primary role with NU's distance group, Schack led junior Charlie Rimkus to the NCAA Championships last season. Rimkus is well on his way to scoring big points at the conference meet and putting himself into All-America position this year.

Schack graduated in 2002 from Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., with a degree in economics before earning his masters in business administration at West Virginia. Schack captained the swimming and water polo teams at Union, where he was a four-time individual conference champion. He is married to three-time Olympian and 12-time Mexican national champion Adriana Marmolejo.
