Northwestern Adds Kyle Schack as Assistant Coach

EVANSTON, Illinois, August 20. NORTHWESTERN head coach Jarod Schroeder, who officially assumes his duties on Sept. 1, announced today (Aug. 20) the hiring of Kyle Schack as an assistant coach with the men's swimming and diving program. Schack is taking the position vacated by Schroeder when he was named the replacement for retiring head coach Bob Groseth.

"Kyle is going to be a great addition to the program," Schroeder said. "His background in coaching has been distanced based while mine is in sprint and middle distance, so we will be able to address the needs of all of our student-athletes. In addition, he has a great coaching pedigree with stints at Harvard, Texas and Arizona State, and he is a proven recruiter."

Schack joins Northwestern following two seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Arizona State, where he led C.J. Nuess to a Pac-10 championship and All-America honors in the 1,650 free as well as an All-America accolade in the 400 IM. He also coached Israeli Olympian Gal Nevo, who reached the semi-finals at the Beijing Olympics.

Prior to his time in Tempe, Schack made stops as an assistant coach at Texas, a volunteer assistant at Harvard and a graduate assistant at West Virginia. He also served as the interim head coach at Division III Alma College for both the men's and women's programs from September of 2006 through April of 2007. He was a member of the 2007 USA Swimming Zone Select Camp staff, as well.

"There are few institutions that rival Northwestern in the pursuit of all-around greatness," Schack said. "I look forward to every day of work with Coach Schroeder because we bring out the best in each other, but more so I look forward to working with the outstanding student-athletes at Northwestern who will be Big Ten and NCAA champions, noted scholars and active in the community."

Schack graduated from Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., with a degree in economics before earning his masters in business administration at West Virginia.
