Northern California Swimmers Sell #BLM Caps to Raise Money for Black Lives Matter

Two swimmers in Northern California have started an online campaign to sell swim caps with #BLM on them to raise money and awareness for Black Lives Matter.

The project is the brain child of Nina Rodwell and Riley Hill, both 13. The caps are available on swimcapz.com for $10 each, with half of the purchase price going to Black Lives Matter. Caps are available in 14 colors, with a minimum order of 25 caps.

One side bears the #BLM, while the other shows the outline of a raised fist.

“The current events has [sic] made us very aware of the struggle and hardships that many black people face,” the Rodwell and Hill wrote in the listing. “However we never fully understood the situation. We believe that all people should be treated equally, no matter their race or ethnicity. After hearing and witnessing the news of the killings, wrongful convictions and the discrimination that black people face motivated us to support the #BLM movement.”

Rodwell and Hill swim for the Greenmeadow Community Association swim team and for PASA in Palo Alto, Calif., though their project is not affiliated directly with either organization but rather a solo project they’re undertaking. The campaign is also taking donations via PayPal, and the caps are available for sale through Sept. 2.

Doesn’t having a cap specifically for supporting one race do exactly the opposite of treating all races equally? Will other caps be available to raise awareness for other ethnicities?
