Noè Ponti Roars To 22.65 In 50 Fly At Swiss Championships; Moves Up To Sixth All-Time

Noè Ponti Roars To 22.65 In 50 Fly At Swiss Championships; Goes Sixth All-Time

Noè Ponti went sixth in the all-time 50 fly rankings with a 22.65 blast at the 2024 Swiss Championships in Uster.

The Olympic 100 fly bronze medallist served notice with 22.91 in prelims where he made his first journey inside 23secs to lower his Swiss record of 23.04 from the 2022 World Championships in Budapest.

Come the final and Ponti, sliced a further 0.26 from that time to move to the head of the 2024 rankings, 0.29 ahead of Michael Andrew’s 22.94 in the semis of the World Championships in Doha.

It sees him continue the fine form he has shown since the 2023 European Short-Course Championships where he won an unprecedented butterfly treble.

Antonio Djakovic, who has an A cut in the 400 free, came within four tenths of adding one in the 200 free. He dominated the field with a time of 1:46.66, the only swimmer to break 1:51. That latter fact doesn’t bode well for a Swiss team that has qualified an 800 free relay for Paris. Djakovic holds the holds the Swiss record at 1:45.32 from Euros in 2022.

Nils Liess was the runner-up in 1:51.25, followed by Balint Ashton in 1:51.84.

Lisa Mamie fell shy of her bid to earn an Olympic A cut in the 100 breast. She went 1:07.70 at night, a tenth slower than her morning time. The A cut in the 100 breast is 1:06.79, the B cut 1:07.12. Mamie still bested the field by 3.5 seconds.

Angelina Patt won the 400 IM in 4:51.48 to start the finals session. Julia Ullman went 26.81 to get to the wall first in the 50 fly. Lena Kreundl won the 200 free in 2:01.29. Christian Schreiber won the men’s 1,500 free in 15:47.90.
