Noah Duperre Completes 12-13 Age Division Sweep at USA Diving Juniors

KNOXVILLE, Tennesse, August 8. Noah Duperre (New Albany, Ohio) of the Ohio State Diving Club completed the sweep of the 12-13 boys’ age group, winning his third gold medal Friday at the USA Diving Junior National Championships, while Duke Diving’s Andrew Capobianco (Holly Springs, N.C.) and Indiana Diving’s Sarah Bacon (Indianapolis, Ind.) won their second golds. Others crowned as junior national champions Friday were three Texans: Maria Coburn (Round Rock, Texas) of Longhorn Aquatics, Emily Grund (Keller, Texas) of GC Diving and Christopher Law (San Antonio, Texas) of Alamo Area Aquatics.

Duperre closed out his 2014 junior nationals with 361.00 points in the 12-13 boys’ platform contest to win his third gold medal of the week, having also won 1-meter and 3-meter titles. Jordan Rzepka (Solon, Ohio) of Cleveland Area Diving scored 336.80 points for silver after winning bronze on both springboard events. Maxwell Flory (Fairfax, Va.) of the Dominion Dive Club took third with 307.25 points; he was second on the two springboard events.

Capobianco won for the second night in a row, scoring 426.55 points to win the 14-15 boys’ 1-meter title a day after winning on platform. Charles River Diving’s Benjamin Bramley (Wellesley, Mass.) took second with 381.15 points, while Colten Young (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) of the Mission Viejo Nadadores scored 378.45 points for third.

Bacon took the 16-18 girls’ 3-meter title with 543.30 points after winning 1-meter on Thurdsay. Olivia Rosendahl (Los Angeles) of the Trojan Dive Club was second with 507.70, edging Tucson Diving’s Delaney Schnell(Tucson, Ariz.), who finished third with 505.55 points.

Law became the first person to beat Duke Diving’s Jordan Windle (Morrisville, N.C.) this week. Law finished with 653.75 points to win the 16-18 boys’ platform title while Windle settled for silver at 642.35 after already having won gold on 3-meter, synchronized 3-meter and synchronized platform. Ohio State Diving’s David Dinsmore (New Albany, Ohio) scored 623.15 points for third.

Grund scored 399.10 points to win the junior national title in 14-15 girls’ 3-meter. Nikki Watters (New Albany, Ohio) finished second with 389.75 points, while 1-meter champion Brooke Schultz (Cicero, Ind.) was third with 386.35 points.

Coburn, who won silver on 3-meter earlier in the week, came through with 289.45 points to win gold in the 12-13 girls’ 1-meter contest. Three-meter champion Tarrin Gilliland (Liberty Hill, Texas), Coburn’s teammate at Longhorn Aquatics, took the 1-meter silver with 282.15 points, while GC Diving’s Bridget O’Neil (Southlake, Texas) was third with 278.75 points.

The USA Diving Junior National Championships conclude Saturday, August 9. In all, 28 junior national titles will be awarded throughout the championships. In addition, the 2014 FINA World Junior Championships team will be selected off results from the meet.
