No 2000 NCAA Championship For Women’s Water Polo

The NCAA Cabinet rejected Water Polo’s proposal to approve Women’s Water Polo for an NCAA Championship in 2000. The cabinet felt it had no authority to independently change the requirement that a minimum of 40 schools had to play for one year before a Championship could be instituted. While 40 schools have announced that they will initiate varsity programs, several will not begin play until the 2000 season. Thus it is now probable that the NCAA will approve the first Official NCAA Championship for Women for 2001.
