18-year-old Nicolo Martinenghi took down Michael Andrew’s world junior record in the men’s 50 breast at the European Short Course Championships in Copenhagen, posting a time of 26.31 in the event’s semi-finals.

Martinenghi took eight hundredths off Andrew’s previous WJR of 26.39 set last December at the World Short Course Championships in Windsor, Canada, and he also broke his own European Junior Record of 26.43 set in the prelims.

Martinenghi ended up qualifying eighth for the final, six tenths behind top seed Kirill Prigoda.
