NEW COMMIT: National Age Group relay record holder Samantha Armand of Cary, North Carolina has decided to swim for her in-state Tar Heels beginning in 2023.

She will join Lucy WalkerMichaela ChokurevaMaren Conze and Ava Muzzy as a member of the Tar Heels’ Class of 2027.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I chose UNC because of my recruiting trip. The atmosphere was amazing and everyone got along. I could tell that everyone enjoyed being together and watching one of their practices after they did a stadium run for 9/11 was awesome. Even after they ran the stadium they had a kick set and they had fun doing it together. It felt like a place I knew I would have fun and would definitely get better. And driving with the girls around the campus made everything so surreal and I felt like I belonged.”

Armand does her club swimming with TAC Titans and placed sixth in the 100m breast and 10th in the 200m breast at Cary Futures last month. She and her teammates also broke the National Age Group record in the 4x100m medley relay in Cary.

Back in December, she finished eighth in both the 100 breast and 200 breast at Juniors East. She also won the 100 breast and took third in the 200 breast at Cary Sectionals in March.

Her best times include:

  • 100 breast – 1:00.61
  • 200 breast – 2:14.39
  • 50 free – 23.33
  • 100 free – 51.45
  • 200 IM – 2:03.21

Entering her senior year at Green Level High School, Armand earned silver in both the 50 free and 100 breast at the 2022 North Carolina 4A State Championships. She has also received USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors.

She’s a great pickup for the Tar Heels, as she would’ve been their third fastest 100 breaststroker last year and ranked fifth in the 200 breast. She would’ve placed in the B- and C-final of those events, respectively, at the 2022 ACC Championships.
