New Mexico vs. Air Force, San Diego State, Colorado State

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico, October 23. THEe University of New Mexico swimming and diving team hosted three conference opponents Saturday when they welcomed Air Force, Sad Diego State, and Colorado State to Seidler Natatorium for a quad meet.

The Lobos swam to victory against Air Force with a final score of 194-106, but fell to San Diego State 211-89, and Colorado State 180-120.

The Lobos had 14 top five finishes on the day.

"This is another meet that we were excited for," said head swimming coach Tracy Ljone. "The ladies really stepped it up and swam well for us today. All of the distance swimmers did great."

Maria Dudley finished third in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a final time of 10:45.95 for the Lobos.

Freshmen Heidi Zeiger placed second in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:54.45. Ashley Blanchette also performed well, placing third in the 100-yard breaststroke with 1:06.80.

Diving had a strong showing as well sweeping both the 3-meter and 1-meter springboards with scores of 293.80 by Aubrey Bush on 3-meter, and 265.45 by Ashlee Erickson on 1-meter.

Freshmen Megan Harper followed Bush with a second place finish (285.45), and Melissa Bollig and Ashlee Erickson finished fourth and fifth respectively with scores of 272.95 and255.85.

On the 1-meter Megan Harper and Melissa Bollig finished fourth and fifth with scores of 234.20 and 233.10.

"The divers did well today, I'm very proud of them," said diving coach Abel Sanchez. "We trained hard all of this week and it definitely showed. Gaby really stepped it up on the 1-meter, and it's really great that Aubrey performed well for us."

The meet also served as Think Pink and Senior Day for New Mexico. Lobo veterans Sally Bellinger, Jennifer Burgess, and Nanette Wittenberg were all honored during the meet.

This was the last home meet for the Lobos; they will spend the rest of the season on the road. Up next New Mexico will travel to Greenley, Colo., for a dual meet against Northern Colorado on Nov. 4th. Last time these teams faced each other, Oct. 29 of last year, the Lobos were triumphant with a final score of 244-180.
