Neil Walker Cooks at Texas Senior Circuit Champs

AUSTIN, Texas, July 15. A longtime staple on the international sprint scene, Neil Walker seems to be getting better with age. Competing at the Texas Senior Circuit Championships, the 31-year-old Walker prevailed in the 100 freestyle Sunday night, thanks to a mark of 49.60. The Olympic veteran corralled first-place honors ahead of his Longhorn Aquatics teammates Garrett Weber-Gale (49.90) and Ryan Verlatti (50.76).

Nick Thoman supplied a victory for Longhorn in the 100 backstroke, as his clocking of 55.25 gave him plenty of breathing room from Jon Berrettini (57.19). In the women's 100 backstroke, Julia Wilkinson took first place in 1:02.83. It was Wilkinson's second win of the night, as she also bested the competition in the 200 individual medley (2:17.82). On the male side, Caleb McDermott won the 200 I.M. in 2:05.12.

Longhorn's Tanica Jamison was swiftest in the women's 100 free, behind a swim of 56.69, slightly quicker than the 56.74 of Triin Aljand. However, Aljand won the 50 fly in 26.72, with Jamison second in 28.28. Other winners were Tyler O'Halloran (28.79) and Renee Iserman (33.25) in the 50 breaststrokes and Nikki White in the 800 free (8:51.99). Marcus Guttman was the top finisher in the 1500 free (16:10.77).
