Nebraska Women Earn Convincing Victories Over Iowa and Rutgers

The Nebraska Cornhuskers and Iowa Hawkeyes were in East Piscataway, N.J., this weekend to take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Nebraska was the dominant team over the two-day meet, winning 223-130 against Iowa and 210-143 against Rutgets while Iowa defeated Rutgers 182.5-170.5.

The Nebraska 200 medley relay team of Virginia ConsiglioJojo RandbyBeatrix Tanko and Maisie Gilford got the win in 1:40.74, with Gilford’s 22.80 anchor split proving decisive. Gena Jorgenson won the 500 free (4:46.89), and Maia Hall won the 200 breaststroke (2:11.90). Anna Vlachou took first in the 100 free (50.19), and the team of Tanko, Randby, Vlachou and Gilford won the 200 free relay in 1:31.59.

Day two began with Consiglio, Randby, Tanko and Gilford winning the 400 medley relay in 3:39.52 before Jorgenson won her second distance race of the meet with a time of 16:19.02 in the 1650 free. Guilford was the winner of the 50 free (23.03), and the 100 butterfly went to Vlachou in 53.38. Giulia Marchi won the 200 free (1:48.94), and the meet ended with Tanko, Marchi, Vlachou and Gilford going 3:20.12 for the 400 free relay win.

The Hawkeyes’ Olivia Swalley took first in the 200 IM (1:58.44) and 400 IM (4:11.87). In diving, Iowa’s Makayla Hughbanks won 1-meter (317.65).

Rutgers’ first win came from Shannon Meadway in the 200 backstroke (1:57.72), and Blanka Berecz came away with a dominant triumph in the 200 fly (1:57.69). Rutgers’ Katerina Hoffman topped 3-meter diving (288.35), and the 100 back went to Martyna Piesko (54.29).
